Meet Jeanmarie Schiller-McGinnis this week's Ben's Bellee! Jeanmarie was nominated by Kenneth Cohn for her tireless dedication as the Founder of Hearts that Purr Feline Guardians. Hearts that Purr is a 501(c)(3) charity founded by Jeanmarie to offer a beautiful loving home to valued pets whose owners have died or can no longer provide a home for their kitties. Sometimes people have thought ahead and arranged for Hearts That Purr to take care of their pet if something happens to them. More often, Jeanmarie gets a phone call about a senior pet whose owner has passed, and the pet no longer has a home. She heads to the shelter and these cats are then blessed with a new home and the best of care. They go to the “ranch” where two to three cats enjoy a large room with human and kitty furniture, a water fountain and a surveillance camera to keep an eye on everyone. Appropriate food and medications are provided for senior cats with diabetes, chronic renal disease, hyperthyroidism and other diseases. Some have suffered with chronic dental disease that the owner couldn’t afford to treat, but Jeanmarie takes care of them all. Not only does she look for seniors to foster these “senior cats,” but she also provides all their new pet’s basic needs, from litter boxes to food to veterinary care.
