Laila Halaby nominated Rachel for her work with refugee families.
Rachel volunteers for Owl and Panther, a nonprofit expressive arts program serving refugee families. Rachel is present every week, drives several children on most days, and is cheerful and kind with every single child with whom she works.
Rachel has adjusted her own schedule on several occasions in order to ensure that all participants can be present for all the activities. She always is totally present and exhibits genuine kindness. Volunteering by definition goes above and beyond, and Rachel takes that a few steps further. She is a consistent and honest role model who is always looking for more ways to help, whether that is providing extra resources for a family, or volunteering on a weekend outing, or driving one extra participant, or simply listening.
